I originally drooled over this at
Rachel vs. The Kitchen. I found out that she drooled over it at
The Sisters' Cafe. And I found out that they drooled over it at
Cooking Pleasures. Funny how recipes make their rounds, huh? The pictures had me drooling...not to mention, chocolate + bananas = delicious! The original recipe called for a 60-70 minute cooking time. This absolutely amazed me because I knew if I cooked it that long it would NOT be moist (although all of their pictures were). So, I started checking early (about the same time I check my banana bread)...and sure enough, 45 minutes was perfect for mine. So, know your oven & trust your instincts. Plus, I had to throw some sea salt in there...salt is a flavor enhancer and there wasn't any in the original recipe. I added one less banana than the original recipe, which in hindsight, may be the reason that it didn't take as long to cook. So, if you throw in another banana, it may take the whole 60-some minutes. Anyhoo...feast your eyes on this...
Chocolate Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
by girlichef -adapted from Cooking Pleasures
1 c. sugar
2 lg. eggs
1/3 c. vegetable oil
3/4-1 c. mashed bananas (from 2 super-ripe bananas)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
Couple big pinches of Fleur de Sel
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chocolate chips (all one or 1/2 & 1/2 semi-sweet & milk)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease or spray your loaf pan.
Beat sugar, eggs and oil until fluffy. Beat in bananas and vanilla.
Combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in seperate bowl. Beat into wet ingredients until just combined.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Spoon into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 45 minutes.
Transfer to wire rack to cool. I liked it warm...mmmm.
Be sure to pass your mixing bowl and spoon to someone to make sure it's cleaned up really well before washing ;)
...and don't forget to eat your greens (and then send me a link)!
I like banana bread....and make them also quite often. But haven't baked one with chocolate yet. I love to eat them for the breakfast!
ReplyDeletep.s. Thanks for the email. :-) I guess I will give up the eggplant...and look for something else tomorrow morning...

oh my - we ARE on the same wave length! I just bookmarked a similar recipe 2 days ago. I especially am favoring the pic of young girl all chocolatey fingers digging in to Mom's luscious baked goods - that is what a childhood is for
ReplyDeleteMan! I would have this for dessert any day! Looks incredible!
ReplyDeleteI love the combo of bananas and chocolate! I'm drooling!
ReplyDeletegreat advice about knowing your oven and trusting your instincts. I always hear about people who had disastrous results because they follow recipes too precisely (and then blame the person who created the recipe).
ReplyDeleteI'll have what you're having...it looks divine!
ReplyDeleteI keep trying to figure out what this recipe is missing and I keep coming back to one thing - me - this needs me to inhale as many thick pieces as I can before I cant breathe anymore....
ReplyDeleteLook at all that chocolately moistness! Ooooh la la!!
ReplyDeleteYour cake tester is a sweetie as well!
Look out....I could eat the whole loaf. I would be trying to convince myself it was healthy to eat as a breakfast : )
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea of this! I devour my chocolate chip banana bread (slightly undercooked as usual :) ) but being a chocoholic I'm shocked I haven't thought of this!

I'm so glad you liked it!!! My husband took a slice for breakfast EVERY day for the entire work week!!! The next time I make it, I think I'm going to try baking it a bit less...I would have liked it a little more moist...it seemed to get a bit more "browned around the edges" that I typically like. Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteUhhhh why do folks insist on doing this to me BEFORE breakfast?
ReplyDeleteI am having egg whites for breakfast...yeahaww...However, I will be dreaming of this with a wonderful cup o' coffee! wouldn't that be amazing (and a bit sinful?)
My friend and I shared mixing blades from our cake the other day, and that was like being two kids! Cute photo, and that cake looks so moist and full of chocolaty goodness. I might try and make this before I leave Texas...
