Chocolate Oatmeal yield ~2-4 svgs. adapted from a recipe by MonsterMama 1 1/2 c. Rolled Oats 1/4 c. Vanilla Sugar 1/4 c. Cocoa Powder (I used Hershey's Special Dark) 1 3/4 c. water couple pinches Espresso Brava Sea Salt ~1/2 c. milk Bring water to a boil. Stir in vanilla sugar and cocoa until dissolved. Add oats and sea salt and lower heat to a gentle simmer until the oats are tender, ~5 minutes. Turn off heat and stir in milk. Serve with extra milk, vanilla sugar and Espresso Brava Sea Salt for garnish, if wanted.

What do you like in your oatmeal?
I know I've told you about the madhouse that is my life now that College Football is in full swing...and because of that, I find the days just speeding by and keep thinking I'm not going to get everything done that needs being done! About a month ago, the gals over at The KrAzY KiTcHeN asked me if I'd like to be a part of their weekly (foodie) meme exploits. If you know me, you know I have a hard time saying no. So, I said yes. Apparently I like that feeling of utter insanity.

Heather, the chocolate oatmeal are for me a wonderful breakfast in winter time! I love to eat those as a snack, no kidding, sometimes I even poured myself a whole bowl of cornflakes and placed it in front of me and my computer...typing, eating, blogging and chatting...that's why I need to regularly clean my keyboard. ;-)

ReplyDeleteI haven't had oatmeal in FOREVER, but this cool Fall weather is putting me in the mood. My kids went through a phase where they were eating it like crazy, but now they "snub" it--I bet if I add some chocolate, I could persuade them to try it again :)

flour and butter and some spices to make cookies... I'm old and crotchety, never liked oatmeal (for breakfast), never will...
I always like to comment on how your photos are so good that I can smell the food from here... well, it is true today, but that in today's case, that is not really a compliment from me.

LOL, I'm a bit of a fuddy duddy and will add cinnamon and apples and brown sugar to mine. I've made a baked oatmeat that's pretty good, that has eggs in it and some other goodies. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward, grins.

Yummy! I like chocolate too with sliced banana in it. But my absolute favorite is with brown sugar, milk, and a whole egg cracked on top. You add the egg at the end and cook just until the white is cooked. When you eat it, you break the yolk and swirl it around. Sounds weird, but it's really tasty!

Wow, chocolate oatmeal! That's different. It's interesting that this combination makes so much sense, yet I have never heard of it before! Sounds delicious! Love the addition of the espresso sea salt. I can really see how that would balance out the flavours of the chocolate.

Yes, this is definitely a bit of a "special occasion" oatmeal. :) My absolute favorite way to eat oatmeal is with brown sugar and a pinch of sea salt!

ReplyDeleteI'm the only one in my family who doesn't like chocolate... and doesn't like oatmeal... so I don't think I'd like this very much... however I think I'd be the best mom on the planet (for at least a half an hour after breakfast anyway) if I made this for them!

ReplyDeleteI have chocolate oatmeal at least twice a week (seriously)! But it's simply plain oatmeal sprinkled with cocoa powder and sugar, then chocolate soy milk is added. It's not as gorgeously rich as this - can't wait to try it!
