Product Review: Palm Leaf Plates from Marx Foods

I hate washing dishes.  There.  I said it.  Which is pretty unfortunate since I dirty at least one sink load a day all by my lonesome.  Then there are the four other people in the house ...whom I think have a secret plan to drive me nuts by using as many glasses, dishes, silverware (the worst) they possibly can before I blow my lid.  Yup, I am the dishwasher in this house...no machine.  Not that I don't get some relief every now and again once or twice a month.  I am all for using actual dishes and silverware...but sometimes a girl needs a break!  Enter the disposable plate.  Guilty but my nails thank me.  How 'bout a disposable plate that is 100% biodegradable and compostable!?  Stop telling me to shut-up.  It totally exists.  And it's pretty damn sexy.
I'm not here to show off the super-sloppy sloppy joes...

I'm not here to show off the grilled veggies tossed in olive oil and fresh herbs...

I'm not even going to talk about this smooth, creamy ice cream...

drizzled in honey and sprinkled with sea salt...

These babies are durable as all get-out!  Not even the sloppiest of sloppy joes or the warm olive oil could penetrate these rustic beauties.

Case in point.  DQ  demonstrates your flimsy run-of-the-mill paper plate after holding said items.  Sad.

These Palm plates are made from "freshly fallen, naturally discarded sheaths of the leaves of the Adaka palm tree."  They're not savagely ripped from the tree while still alive...no trees are chopped down (they come from a non-timber forest!).  The leaves are naturally shedded, then collected and then hand-washed, stretched & flattened.  To read about the entire process at Marx foods, simply click here.

So, give your hard-working hands a day of relaxation and relief with these rockin' Palm Leaf Plates from Marx Foods...and they come in all kinds of rockin' shapes & sizes...plus, there's bowls, dishes, and utensils!  I think they are absolutely perfect for adding a touch of rustic elegance to any picnic or outdoor gathering.  Or indoor.  Go wild.

  2. I'm one of those wierd people who like to wash dishes. Like how my hands feel. Love the side by side plate comparison! Just like on TV. :-) These plates look amazing, but not as amazing as the sloppy joes or that ice cream.

  11. so...i just went and bought 200 plates from their website---i am headed to a family vacation at my folks beach house. my dad only likes to use paper plates and my mom can't stand the thought of it. so i figured this would be the best compromise...disposable and attractive! thanks for the tip

  13. Hi Girlichef. I think I want some of those dishes. I'm going to look them up and send for some. I've never seen them here in any of our stores. Thanks for introducing them to me. Have a great rest of the week.

  15. Ooh how neat. I like them! Can you wash and reuse them?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Monica...one word...disposable. HA! You could if you really wanted to...but you have to be quick about it. They are leaves, afterall...they wilt ;) Seriously...they do if they get wet for too long. I tried it!

  17. I tried these a while back--such fun and so cool to look at. Now if I could just send them all the "shedded" palm branches that fall in my yard to make into plates for me... ;-)

  18. Dirty dishes breed, you didn't know that? But only for us lucky chicks with no dishwashers (you and me). :o)

  19. these are lovely
this posts made me feel like having an ice cream again

  20. Not fair, not fair, having to do both the cooking and the dishes! (speaking as someone who does both) What ever happened to you cook, I clean? Isn't that why we have kitchen staff, errr, minions, errr, children and spouses?

  21. these plates look cool.. but I'm drooling over those sloppy joes and ice cream..

  22. These plates rock! But cost is an issue...and the fact that you have to special order them. Something as good as this should be mass marketed or at least available in special markets.

  23. Sounds awesome! I'll have to try those the next time I have a get-together with more people than I want to wash dishes for! (I'm the dishwasher in MY house, too!)
