It's hilarious. It makes me cry. Really. I've told you I'm a baby like that, right? Plus, it definitely spreads Christmas cheer. But is it a foodie movie? Pssshh. Of course it is! Almost anybody can be a foodie movie if you "go into it" that way. Sure, some take more imagination that others, but still.
Elf is one of those that stokes the fires of the imagination. From Maple Syrup Spaghetti, to a sweet-tooth (or tooth-ache) inducing breakfast, to coffee with "syrup", there are some obvious triggers. But if you look further and have some fun with it, there are so many phrases that you could turn into a play-on-words sort of dish.
I tossed around all sorts of ideas this year. But ultimately, I was in a cocktail sort of mood. I thought maybe "Snowballs" - in honor of the awesome snowball throwing scene. Or perhaps a Christmas Gram - think graham cracker-coated rim. But ultimately, I took inspiration from one of my favorite scenes - the "angry elf" scene.
Merry Christmas!
Angry Elf {cocktail}

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: n/a
Keywords: beverage nut-free vegetarian Christmas winter
Ingredients (2 cocktails)
- 3 ounces Cake Vodka
- 3 ounces Creme de Cacao
- 2 ounces heavy cream
- 1 ounce Peppermint Schnapps
- .5 ounce Absinthe
- ice cubes
- heavy cream
- 2 crushed candy canes
Instructions
Fill a shaker halfway full with ice cubes. Pour in everything else, put the lid on and shake until well-chilled.
Pour a little puddle of heavy cream into a saucer. Place the crushed candy canes into another sauce. Dip the rim of two cocktail glasses into the cream to coat well and then into the crushed candy canes.
Strain the chilled cocktail into the glasses. Enjoy responsibly - these cocktails look innocent, but they pack a vicious punch!
Please note that these cocktails are mostly alcohol - and though sweet and creamy, are very strong. I think that the Absinthe adds that perfect "angry" touch, but if you're not a fan of black licorice flavor, you could omit it for a creamy peppermint-flavored drink.
And join us next month when Debra from Eliot's Eats will be hosting Food 'n Flix for the very first time with her pick, The Breakfast Club. Oh yeah, we're kicking off 2014 in (old-school) style.
