I've seen all of those movies I listed about countless times, but The Goonies was, and still is, one of my favorite movies (don't tell River, Ralph, or Christian). I used to stare at posters of Sean Astin ripped from BOP or Teen Beat and taped neatly to my wall. If only I'd realized how hot Brand was going to grow up to be. But hey, he was too old for me at the time. I still have a soft spot for Sean. So when my husband met him...like, sat and talked for an entire hour with him...and casually mentioned it after the fact, I had a mini freak-out session. How rude. I expect covert texting to alert me to such occurrences. It's not like I introduced him to Samwise Gamgee or anything. Anyway, I digress. Don't worry, I'll get over it. One day. When I'm dead.
So, when you sit down to watch this month's pick, keep your eyes peeled and your notebook handy. There's obvious inspiration, right from the opening scene (think Chunk and the food and drink he plasters on the window to watch the police chase). Actually Chunk is in quite a few of the obvious scenes, with ideas like pizza, candy bars, milkshakes, potato chips, ice cream.
But there are also quite a few of those "thinking outside of the box moments" opportunities I mentioned earlier, if you really open your mind. Maybe something made in a blender? Or perhaps a little movie theater food. Maybe you want to make a copycat Godfather's pizza? And I'm definitely hoping that somebody runs with "the only thing on the menu" at Fratelli's.
I think one of the most classic scenes from the movie can inspire all sorts of kitchen inspiration, as well. Sweet...savory...cheesy...chocolatey...everybody loves a little truffle shuffle.
And let's not forget that there's a whole bunch of "Italian" in The Goonies. Whether inspired by Mouth's ambitious order or something more obvious. Let's just say that the possibilities are endless, and cannot wait to see what everybody comes up with this month. There is definitely enough inspiration to go around.
But hey, if everybody wants to make pepperoni pizza, I'm okay with that too, as long as nobody kills each other over it.
