Food inspired by Film - a #FoodnFlix Roundup!

Food 'n Flix 5-year celebration roundup
This past month marked five years of cooking with movies and the other members of the Food 'n Flix club. As a fun way to celebrate, I invited everybody to take their pick from any of our 60 previously viewed films for their submissions this month (you can read more about that in my announcement post, if you like).

It's been a lot of fun opening the submissions as they trickled in this month, seeing which movies each person picked. With so many to choose from, I thought maybe...just maybe...that none would overlap. We did wind up with a couple of people cooking from the same movies when all was said and done, but that doesn't make the posts any less fun to read through. Half of what I enjoyed most this month was reading the reasons why everybody chose what they did.

So, without further ado, here are the posts made to celebrate 5 years of watching movies that inspired us to head into the kitchen—together!

Inspired by Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
I love the whimsy of this Attack of the Killer Squashed Tomatoes Baguette from Evelyne from Cheap Ethnic Eatz, inspired by the cheesy horror-comedy from the 70's. Plus, it looks ridiculously good...I want it in my belly right now so I can show those tomatoes who's boss!

Inspired by Chocolat
Terri from Our Good Life went all the way back to our first ever pick, and used Chocolat as her inspiration for these incredibly tempting Chocolate Cupcakes! I think just seeing them would coax a sexy smile onto Roux's lips.

I love that Amy from Amy's Cooking Adventures took my (not so) subtle hint to go ahead and do more than one post to celebrate 5 years of Food 'n Flix! Inspired by the chili pepper than Vianne puts in her hot chocolate, Amy made these awesome Tequila Spiked Chocolate Dipped Jalapeños. I am SO making a batch of these.

Inspired by The Goonies
My friend Deb from Kahakai Kitchen has been with Food 'n Flix since the very first movie pick back in September of 2010. She only missed 6 of 60 movies over the years, and decided to go back and watch the one she regretted missing the most this month, The Goonies! She is sharing these Chocolate Rochers (Rochers is French for little rocks)  or as she likes to think of them, Little Chunks!

Inspired by How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Amy from Amy's Cooking Adventures has a soft spot for the flick How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (drop by her post to see the incredibly sweet reason why), so she used the street food aspect of that movie to inspire her dish this month, Chicago Dogs. High-five for doing two F'nF posts this month, Amy!

Inspired by Julie & Julia
Wendy from A Day in the Life on the Farm dusted off her "out of sight, out of mind" copies of both Julie & Julia and Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking this month and made this scrumptious Suprêmes de Volaille à la Milanaise. (Everything sounds better in French, doesn't it?)

I knew from the moment I saw the title of her dish—Lobster Killer Rolls—which movie Cam from Culinary Adventures with Camilla chose this month! The lobster killer scene is probably my favorite "Julie" scene in the movie, such fun. Drop by the post to see some of the scene, learn a fun fact about lobster, and then wish you had one of these mouthwatering sandwiches in hand.

Inspired by Mistress of Spices, Woman on Top, Simply Irresistible, AND Practical Magic
Kimberly from Coffee and Casseroles chose not one, but four of our previously viewed flicks that all have a few themes in common for one "Magickal Potluck"! The dishes she made and the movies they were inspired by are: Kick Start My Heart Spiced Soda inspired by Mistress of Spices, "Hell of a Heartache" Mac and Cheese inspired by Woman on Top, "Bewitching" Blueberry Cheesecake inspired by Simply Irresistible, and "Inviting" Pancakes with Apple Syrup inspired by Practical Magic. I've always liked a good potluck...

Inspired by Mystic Pizza
Although we may not know exactly what Leona puts in her pizza to make it so irresistible, Debra from Eliot's Eats tells us exactly how she combined some unorthodox (but completely fantastic) ingredients to make her Mystical Autumn Pizza. I think she'd give Leona a run for her money.

Elizabeth from The Lawyer's Cookbook chose to celebrate her life-long love of pizza (seriously, pizza has always been her friend) by rewatching Mystic Pizza. I'm on pretty good terms with pizza myself, and would love a big slice of her Broccoli Arugula Pepperoni Pizza!

Inspired by Tortilla Soup
Debbie from The Friday Friends chose one of my favorite foodie films this month and shared a version of my all-time favorite soup by the same name. Check out her Tortilla Soup (with a pretty cool and unexpected ingredient).

Inspired by Waitress
I went back to an old favorite for my dish this month. This "Borrow Your Man" Beef and Beer Pie was inspired by the relationship between Jenna and Dr. Pommater in the pie-centric flick, Waitress!

Thanks so much to everybody who joined in this month—and over the past 5 years. Although I love the movies and the food, it's the people and the interaction that make Food 'n Flix so much fun. I can't wait for the next 5 years!

Join us in October for some Halloween-inspired fun in the kitchen as Elizabeth from The Lawyer's Cookbook hosts with her chosen flick, Hocus Pocus!
