If, for some odd reason, you're not familiar with Beetlejuice, it's the story of Adam and Barbara Maitland, a young couple who dies after their car goes off of a bridge not too far from their home. At first, they don't realize that they've died, since they wind up back in their beloved home. That is, until they realize that nobody else can see them and they stumble upon the Handbook for the Recently Deceased in their attic.
When their house is sold to some big-city artsy-types, Charles and Olivia Deetz, who want to change almost everything about it, they begin their mission to scare them away. Along the way, they realize that haunting isn't as easy as they thought it would be. With the help of their handbook, they consult their caseworker on the "other side" through a door they drew onto the attic wall.
While nobody else has been able to see them, they discover than young Lydia Deetz can see them and wants to be their friend. When they have trouble scaring them out of the home, a "bio exorcist" named Betelgeuse starts trying to attract their attention. Although their caseworker warns them that he is bad news, in their desperation they summon him by saying his name three times—Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!
Sure enough, once set free, they find out that is he is dirty, foul-mouthed, and rude, and he wreaks havoc upon the Deetzes. There's more...but either you've seen it and know the ending, or haven't and don't want the ending spoiled. So I'll move on to the food.
While their isn't a ton of food, the one that is is very memorable. There is also piles of inspiration to be found in the dark, Halloweeny atmosphere. I had several ideas, but as the month flew by, I realized that I was almost out of time and chose something that was incredibly simple. Probably too simple. But hey, sometimes simple is just what we need.
I used storebought Lindt white chocolate truffles and decorated them with colored decorating gel (you could also use frosting) to mimic some Betelgeuse traits...the black and white suit, the purple around the eyes.

Easy Beetlejuice Truffles
prep time: 15 MINScook time: total time: 15 mins
Decorate storebought white chocolate truffles in minutes for an easy Beetlejuice themed dessert.
INGREDIENTS:
- storebought or homemade white chocolate truffles
- black decorating gel or frosting
- purple decorating gel or frosting
- candy eyeballs
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Use the black decorating gel to "paint" black stripes on some of the truffles to mimic the infamous black and white striped Beetlejuice suit.
- Make two circles of purple decorating gel on the remaining truffles and stick a candy eye in each circle to mimic Beetlejuice's eyes.
Optional:
- Make a bed of squiggly white paper strips to lay the truffles on. The paper mimics Beetlejuice's crazy hair.
