Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (S1:E1 "Winter"):
- No theme song. There's no theme song. I've been waiting so long to hear the theme song. Okay, not that long since I just finished binging a month or so ago, but still, I wanted to sing along. I'll admit, there were still a few happy tears when Stars Hollow appeared on the screen.
I've missed you kid.
I've missed you, too.
How long's it been?
Feels like years.
- Plus, they kicked things off with coffee and tacos. Nice.
- I'm going to try to pop in the character's names in the order we see them. So, Lorelai, then Rory first thing. Then we see Lane, Kirk, Miss Patty, the town troubadour, and Luke within the first 10 minutes.
- Okay, this whole "unmemorable boyfriend Paul" thing is ridiculous. It's stupid. And I find it so out of character for Rory.
- The mention of Richard (well, grandpa). Sniff.
- 20:00 minutes in, Taylor and Caesar make their appearances. Um...hair.
- 24:00 Michel - and he's married!
- Sookie on sabbatical means celebrity chefs in the kitchen. In this episode, Roy Choi. It's kind of hilarious, because everything he's making sounds wonderful, but Lorelai rejects it all. But in fairness, he moved the coffee maker. Losing friends and alienating people (people being Lorelai). Unfortunatley we don't get to see Bourdain, who was fired when he parked in Sookie's spot.
- 28:00 Gypsy
- 31:30 Emily...her new maid Berta, and Berta's entire family living in the house.
- I find it kind of annoying that Lorelai seems to have lost her sense of style over the course of 9 years. Style maturing and style disappearing are two different things. I am, however, liking Rory's "young professional" style sense.
- I lost it during the flashack to Richard's funeral. The GG's...the Tom Waits' song..the photo of Richard and Emily. So freaking sad.
- 38:00 Jason Stiles. Meh, Jason.
- Why in the holy heck did Luke and Lorelai wait 9 years to talk about having a "fresh" kid?
- 59:00 PARIS!
- 1 hour, 6 minutes until we see Logan. What the heck? Logan. Rory is kissing Logan, which means she's cheating on Paul. Very uncharacteristic of Rory. And Logan is cheating on his fiance. Just ew. All around yuckness. p.s. - cut your nails Logan.
- So, responsible, kind, smart, Yale-graduate Rory grew up to not have a steady job, cheats on her boyfriend, doesn't have a place to hang her hat Rory. Not very happy about that. Sure, it's probably more realistic than high-powered journalist Rory...oh wait...no it's not!
- Luke giving everybody the wrong...and different...passwords tickled me. That is classic Luke. Luke is the best. Yay Luke.
- 1:14:30-ish Whoa, lookin' rough Zack! Brian looks the same. And GIL - SQUEEE - Still big and beautiful.
- Emily tricked Lorelai into going to therapy. She's still got it.
- Damnit, no Jess yet.
This week's recipe was inspired by true Gilmore Girls-style banter-conversation in the kitchen when Rory first comes home between Luke, Rory, and Lorelai that went something like this (all jumbled together, because Gilmore Girls):
You're eating. Just tacos. Tacos are tiny. I'm making a whole dinner. Wow, so I'm fat. What? Body shaming! I am not body shaming. Trigger warnings! Oh, for Christ's sake. War on Christmas! I am making two main courses because you told me to make two main courses. What two main courses? Uh, mac and cheese, Parmesan cutlets. With garlic bread? And tater tots! I am not making tater tots. Why not? We need sustenance. You're eating tacos. Tater tots go great with tacos. Tater tots are great in tacos. Yes.

- Oh, and I forgot to say - how AWESOME is that new fridge!?
