When I started paging through the new National Geographic release, 50 States 5000 Ideas, it was like I was a kid again, in the back seat, staring at the wonders outside of my window. Filled with bright, vivid photographs from each of the 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces, as well as an overview of a few good cities to start with and landscape info, my mind immediately started planning road trips that I could take with my family.
Within each state's feature, you'll also find fun little asides like tourism information, recommended road trips, hidden treasures, little-known facts, state of the art, capitalism, local flavor, and festivals to pique your interest in each area. I would love to be able to visit each state (and province), and will be leaving this laying out in my living room to inspire friends and family to page through when they are hanging out.
As a fun little aside, I paged through Indiana's section to see what was written, and as I guessed, my city was listed. I live in a pretty popular college town that houses a popular Roman Catholic University with a gorgeous campus. The author mentions the Golden Dome, college football and touchdown Jesus, and the South Bend Chocolate Company. If you need recommendations for a stop in South Bend or Northwestern Indiana - let me know!
