It's crazy, because X-Men is a huge category, full of inspiration just begging to be brought to the table, but I'm still stuck on Logan; it left me feeling raw, emotional, and vulnerable. Since my last recipe was inspired by the trio of Logan, Caliban, and Dr. Xavier, I wanted this one to be all about Laura, or X-23.
Raised in a lab, amongst a new generation of engineered mutants, Laura doesn't express any emotion aside from rage when we first meet her. So we get quiet and inexpressive, but we also get a child desperate for affection — especially from the hero she's read about in comic books, the man whose DNA made her, the closest thing she has to a father.
I thought it was pretty interesting that the majority of the scenes involving food had Laura in them. From the Pringles and candy scene in the gas station to a family dinner with Logan, Dr. X, and the Munsons, who they met earlier, Laura's feral nature is on display. However, there's a moment earlier on, when she is in the kitchen alone, eating a bowl of Corn Flakes, where she seems entirely at peace. Well, until she's threatened and her instincts take over...but I'm focusing on that quiet before the storm.
These Corn Flakes and Milk Squares are a nod to Laura, and the new generation of X-Men, finding their inner peace and their place in the world that doesn't yet know they exist.

Corn Flakes and Milk Squares

Corn Flakes and milk aren't only for breakfast—enjoy them for dessert in these marshmallow cereal squares.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 ounces (1/4 cup / 4 tablespoons) salted butter
- 10 ounces marshmallows
- 4 ounces best quality white chocolate chips
- 3 tablespoons nonfat dry milk
- 5 cups Corn Flakes
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment or wax paper and grease it lightly.
- Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and chocolate; cook 7 minutes or until mixture melts, stirring constantly. Sprinkle the dry milk evenly over the mixture, then add the Corn Flakes and stir until all of them are well-coated.
- Press mixture into a prepared pan and use a greased heat-safe rubber spatula or greased hands to press down into an even, compact layer.
- Allow to cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares and devouring!
