I can hardly believe that 2017 is almost over, but I can think of no better way to end it than with food and a film! I hosted the last Food 'n Flix club of the year with the 1995 Alicia Silverstone film, Clueless - a modern twist on the classic Jane Austen book, Emma (curious as to how the characters overlap? Check out my post here...or search it for a bunch of other fun comparisons).

"I Feel Like Such a Heifer" Marshmallow Squares | Clueless #FoodnFlix #JaneAustenBites
I had a lot of fun flashing back to the mid-90's flick Clueless for Food 'n Flix this month. Clueless is a modern day (well, modern as compared with the original) retelling of the Jane Austen classic, Emma.

Pear & Baby Greens Salad w/ Spiced Maple Walnuts | The Austen Escape | #JaneAustenBites
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay! I'll start by saying that I am very excited to be on this tour for a couple of reasons. First, I'm familiar with Reay by name, not (and I'm ashamed to admit this) because I've actually read any of her novels, rather because I've been meaning to read them. There's just never enough time in the day, is there?
I'm excited to announce that I'm hosting the current round of Fandom Foodies right here on All Roads Lead to the Kitchen this month! I invite you to create and share recipes inspired by the works of Jane Austen—AND their derivatives!
Once again it's December, and once again I am hosting the current edition of the Food 'n Flix club right here on All Roads Lead to the Kitchen with my movie pick and challenge for those who wish to participate, the 1995 "teen comedy", Clueless!

Beer & Brats Stuffing (Dressing) | Planes, Trains and Automobiles #FoodnFlix
Welcome to the November edition of the Food 'n Flix club! This month we're watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles, a 1987 road trip/odd-couple/roadtrip flick starring Steve Martin and John Candy. Oddly enough, I haven't found a whole lot of movies with a Thanksgiving theme, but this is one of the few that does.

Lavender-Lime Soda | The Welcome Home Diner
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for The Welcome Home Diner, the latest food-centric novel by author (and food blogger) Peggy Lampman! This is a novel for all of you foodies out there—it'll make your mouth water from page one with a melange of Polish and Southern-inspired food descriptions, as well as homegrown and locally sourced ingredients and creative recipe ideas.

Spaghetti Bolognese | The Silent Fountain
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for The Silent Fountain, the latest novel by author Victoria Fox. Chapter by chapter, The Silent Fountain ebbs and flows over a period of four decades, introducing the reader gradually to its two main characters, Vivien and Lucy. Both women experienced life-altering events growing up, and both find themselves in a less than ideal situations at some point in their young adult life.

Hot and Sour Soup | Ghostbusters
I'm sneaking in last minute with a recipe inspired by this month's Food 'n Flix pick, the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters! Okay, so I'm just gonna go ahead and put this out there...even though I feel like it's probably the unpopular opinion—I like the new Ghostbusters better than the original. I know there are some out there screaming sacrilege, especially since I grew up with the 1984 version, but the truth is, while I always liked it well enough, it never really clicked. I mean, I rollerskated to Ray Parker Jr.'s theme song like it was nobody's business, but the movie never really clicked (seemed like it was aimed more towards guys to me).

Mini Meatloaf | Recipes from Raine’s Roost aka Jillian’s Kitchen | Interview + Giveaway!
You’re in for a treat today. I’m excited to host another blog stop for author, L.G. O’Connor. I’ve featured several of her books over the years both from her paranormal angel romance series, The Angelorum Twelve Chronicles, and her romantic women’s fiction series, Caught Up in Love. Even though her books aren’t ordinarily “foodie reads,” her heroes seem to know their way around a kitchen and you can tell she appreciates a good meal. So imagine my surprise when she told me her latest release was a recipe compilation from Raine MacDonald, the sexy hero in Caught Up in RAINE! (To see my review of the book and the Chicken Marsala recipe inspired by CUIR from last April, click HERE.)

Fusilli w/ Raw Tomato Sauce | The Sweet Life
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for the latest novel by Sharon Struth called The Sweet Life. This is a sweet story, if somewhat predictable. Mamie Weber is offered the chance to join a bus tour of Tuscany (sound familiar?), and though it's a covert assignment for work, she looks at it as a chance to try and move forward in the aftermath of a tragic accident that took her husband and daughter's lives 5 years ago.

Spicy, Sweet, & Smoky Barbecue Sauce | The Talented Ribkins
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for The Talented Ribkins, debut novel by author Ladee Hubbard! I'll start by saying that after reading the book jacket, there were two initial things that made me want to read this novel. The first being mention of the characters having "superpowers", the second being the reference to W.E.B. Du Boi's essay The Talented Tenth. (Which, if you haven't read it before, I recommend checking out The Talented Tenth just before or after reading The Talented Ribkins.)

Homemade Creamed Corn | Secondhand Lions #FoodnFlix
This month, the Food 'n Flix club is creating recipes inspired by the 2003 flick, Secondhand Lions. While it was made in '03, it was actually set in 1950's Texas (with flashbacks from years before, most taking place in Morocco). At its core, it's about 14-year old Walter who has been dropped off at the home of his two great-uncles, who have a reputation for being surly recluses, sans invitation.

Orange Muffins w/ Cinnamon Glaze | The Awkward Path to Getting Lucky
You must be comfortable with the liberal use of words like vagina, penis, sex, and dildo if you're going to read The Awkward Path to Getting Lucky, the debut novel by Summer Heacock. Really. It's all about Kat's quest to fix her broken lady bits. As long as that doesn't scare you off, you're in for a hilarious...and even a little sexy...read.

THE SWEETEST BURN, an excerpt + giveaway | #TLCBookTours
Excerpt from THE SWEETEST BURN by Jeaniene Frost
Before I could turn around to leave, a large slash suddenly appeared in the air and three people stepped out of it. At once, the supernatural tattoo on my right arm began to burn. I gripped it without looking away, and the part of my brain that wasn’t freaking out figured out what was going on.
The minion I’d killed hadn’t snuck up on me using his supernatural stealth and speed. He’d simply crossed from a demon realm into this one through a gateway that I hadn’t known was there.

Matcha Rice Pudding | Betrayal at Iga
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for Betrayal at Iga by Susan Spann, the 5th book in the Shinobi Mystery series! I started the Shinobi Mysteries on book 3...and I've been hooked ever since. At the end of The Ninja's Daughter, Hiro, Father Mateo, Ana, and Gato have made haste out of Kyoto, and this novel picks up as they enter the village in which Hiro grew up and trained amongst the many shinobi that inhabit it.

Slow Cooker Chile Verde | Another Man's Ground
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for Another Man's Ground, the second book in the Sheriff Hank Worth Mystery series by Claire Booth. I'm pretty excited to be hosting a stop on this tour, because I've been eagerly awaiting this book ever since finishing the first book in the series, The Branson Beauty.

I can feel the excitement in the air—we made it to premiere day! In case you missed it, Evelyne of CulturEatz and I teamed up to bring you Game of Thrones inspired recipes all week long in anticipation of the new season. We started Monday, and traded off days, creating 3 recipes apiece, and culminating with both of us sharing a recipe today with our chosen theme.

Blackberry Wine Slushies (for Tyrion) | Game of Thrones
Welcome to day 6 of the Game of Thrones inspired recipe challenge! Have you been keeping track of the recipes that Evelyne and I have been sharing this week? Are you ready for tomorrow (premiere day)!? I am beyond ready. I have been binging the entire series again, this time with my husband who is watching for the first time—he was hooked from episode 1, of course.

Chicken Caesar Wraps | Like A Fly On The Wall
Welcome to the TLC Book Tours stop for Like A Fly On The Wall by Simone Kelly! I joined this tour really looking forward to reading a novel where the main character reads people's energies and communicates with spirit guides because, although it's not something I mention here on the blog very often, the metaphysical is a regular part of my everyday life (meaning I love meeting characters of this sort).

Honeyed Chicken | Game of Thrones
In honor of the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere this coming Sunday, Evelyne of CulturEatz and I have joined forces to bring you a week's worth of GoT-inspired recipes! Each day one of us will post a new recipe (so, 3 recipes each), but on premiere day we will both share a recipe based on a fun theme within Game of Thrones—Oysters, Clams, and Cockles!
